“After watching the videos in the Awesome Marketing Planner portal, I realised that it was perfectly OK to change the direction of my business and take away what wasn’t working… after all, I’m the boss, right? And that’s when everything changed for the better.”

Memories Enclosed
Artist and single mum Amy Newlands started Memories Enclosed in 2015 as a flexible way to work from home and earn income from her art. Her unique style comes to life in her range of printed items and personalised ‘mini me’ cartoon portraits. It was through Claire and The Girls Mean Business that she realised she could change the direction of her business—and saw an almost instant improvement to her earnings.

“I created my first cartoon character as a little joke and pick-me-up for the girls in Claire’s Facebook planner group and it spawned a whole world of its own. I’m so happy that I found Claire; I’ve regained confidence in my ability to draw—something I’d lost because before, I was constantly clawing for orders!”

It all started with The Girls Mean Business…
“When I found Claire’s Awesome Marketing Planner through a Facebook post and I couldn’t be happier that I did. The end of 2016 had seen me spending hours on social media in the hope of getting an order here or there and it was soul-destroying. I felt like I was constantly playing catch up, like I was missing something.”

What it’s given me is…
“Confidence! After reading through and watching the videos in the planner portal, I realised that it was perfectly OK to change the direction of my business and take away what wasn’t working… after all, I’m the boss, right? I decided it was time to retire the realistic digital portraiture and try something new, ‘mini me’ cartoon commissions. Since orders took off, I’ve regained my confidence in my ability to draw.”

For my business that means…
“A solid pipeline of sales. I started a waiting list for mini me commissions, which at its fullest reached 12 weeks of pre-orders. Since then I have closed the order books to allow me time to deal with all current orders before reopening for more commissions. I have now learned how many orders I can realistically fulfill in a week so I can avoid being overwhelmed, while keeping the flow of work (and income!) steady.”

The Girls Mean Business is my cup of tea because…
“I’m finally getting somewhere! In 2017 my income has increased phenomenally. I’ve now launched a website that I’m happy with and it has sales coming in for gifts and artwork as well as pre-orders for future products. On top of that, I have just completed my first children’s book illustrations and am in talks with another author about a second one.”
