I was talking to my husband the other day and he was telling me about one of his customers ‘Gibbo’. (We’re in the North East, everyone seems to have a nickname, and anyone with the surname Gibson is inevitably referred to as ‘Gibbo’.)
Me: ‘is that the Gibbo who has the garage by the church?’
Husband: “No it’s the one who drove his car into a farmer’s field the other week”
Me: 😳
Husband: “I have 3 Gibbos’
He has 3 Gibbos. He knows exactly who he’s talking about. He assumed I knew. I had no clue. I didn’t even know he had 2 Gibbos, let alone 3.
And it made me think of you. Sometimes we assume people know exactly what we’re talking about, when they don’t. Customers and followers are not mind readers. If in doubt, spell it out.
Love, Claire xx
