If a brand new, super-duper sewing machine came out that made quilting loads easier and it was £1000, would that be expensive?
Depends on who you ask.
For someone who has the money and loves quilting, it might be a no-brainer. For someone running a quilting business, it might be a great investment. For someone who is a beginner or just occasionally quilts, it might feel very expensive.
Same with mountain biking.
My friend is into mountain biking. She thinks nothing of spending £300 on the right helmet. To me that’s expensive, to her that’s a no-brainer.
Value is relative.
What you think of as a ‘no-brainer’ might be someone else’s idea of an expensive waste of money.
It depends who you ask. And when you ask them.
Why does this matter? Because however you price your products or services, there will always be some people who think that’s amazing value and others who think it’s ridiculously expensive.
Market to the people who can see the value. Don’t apologise or lower your prices for those who can’t.
