When you’re a one-woman band, it’s tempting to do everything yourself. Run a home, see to the children, do the marketing, social media, bookkeeping, legal stuff – oh yes, and actually do the thing you get PAID for too.

Then you find that you’re so busy DOING that you don’t have time for strategy, planning, or any of those vital business-growth activities. And as a result? Your business stagnates.

The Multi-Tasking Myth

We’re told that women are great at juggling and that we can make it all work if we just multi-task properly. But do you know what? I don’t WANT to multi-task properly. I don’t WANT to do it all myself. And neither should you, if you’re serious about growing your business.

What Outsourcing Actually Looks Like

It doesn’t have to be expensive or scary. Here’s what I outsource:

Bookkeeping and accounts – I use Xero for day-to-day tracking and have an accountant who loves her job and turns my messy records into beautiful accounts.

Virtual assistant support – VAs can handle your emails, social media scheduling, diary management, invoicing, customer enquiries – you name it. Platforms like Time Etc or PeoplePerHour make finding a great VA incredibly easy.

Design – Canva is amazing for DIY graphics, but for bigger projects, hiring a designer for a few hours can save you days of frustration.

Content creation – AI tools like ChatGPT and Claude can help you brainstorm ideas, write first drafts, and repurpose content. They won’t replace your voice, but they’ll save you hours.

The Mindset Shift You Need

The thing that takes YOU a whole day could take a specialist an hour. So you free up several hours and get an amazing job done for the sake of £25-50. That copywriting you’ve struggled with all week? A copywriter could sort it in a flash, and you’d have brilliantly written copy AND your time back.

Successful business owners don’t do it all themselves – not because they can’t, but because it doesn’t make business sense. Your time is better spent on the things only YOU can do: coaching clients, creating products, building relationships, making sales.

Your challenge: pick ONE thing you’ve been doing yourself that someone else could do better or faster. And outsource it this week. Start small, build trust, and watch your business grow when you finally stop trying to do everything alone.
