I had a lovely surprise the other day. One of my clients sent me a message out of the blue with the most incredible results. She’d doubled her income, hit her monthly target, built an email list from scratch, and was getting 80% of her work from repeat business.
Now, her results are obviously wonderful. But here’s the thing that made my marketing brain light up: she’d given me a GOLDMINE of social proof that I could use in my business. And you should be doing exactly the same thing with yours.
Why Testimonials Beat Advertising Every Time
It doesn’t matter how many Instagram ads you run, how many Reels you create, or how polished your website looks – testimonials from real people will always be more powerful. Because they’re not YOU saying you’re great. They’re SOMEONE ELSE saying you’re great. And that’s a completely different thing.
This is called social proof – and it’s one of the most powerful marketing tools you have. When a potential customer sees that someone just like them got amazing results from working with you, they think: “If it worked for her, it might work for me.”
Where To Use Your Testimonials
On your website – dedicated testimonials page AND scattered throughout your sales pages.
On Instagram – screenshot lovely DMs (with permission), create carousel posts with client results, share video testimonials as Reels.
In your emails – include a client success story in your newsletters via Flodesk or MailerLite.
On Google – ask happy clients to leave a Google Review. This helps your SEO AND gives new customers confidence.
On LinkedIn – ask for LinkedIn recommendations and share client wins in your posts.
How To Ask (Without Feeling Awkward)
Most people feel weird asking for testimonials. But here’s the truth: happy customers WANT to help you. They just don’t think of it unless you ask.
Make it easy for them. Send a quick email or voice note saying: “I’d love to share your results – would you mind writing a couple of sentences about your experience?” Or send them a simple Google Form with 3 questions: What was your situation before? What did we do together? What results did you get?
The best time to ask is when they’re buzzing with results. Strike while the iron is hot!
So – what are YOUR customers saying about you? And are you making the most of it? If not, your challenge this week is to ask three happy customers for a testimonial. You’ll be amazed at what comes back.
