I used to sign up for every freebie going. Every webinar, free ebook, lead magnet, and masterclass that had anything to do with business. And after consuming hundreds of them, I noticed something: they were all a bit… samey.
The free webinars were 20 minutes of “me, me, me” by the host, 10 minutes of semi-useful content, then 40 minutes of hard sell. The emails were all the same clever copywriting formulas. The lead magnets were polished but soul-less. No real personality, no substance – no SOUL.
And I decided to do things completely differently.
What Is Your “Me Factor”?
Your “Me Factor” is the thing that makes your business uniquely yours. It’s your personality, your stories, your opinions, your way of doing things. It’s the reason someone chooses YOU over the hundred other people who offer something similar.
In a world where every Instagram feed looks the same and every sales page follows the same formula, YOUR personality is your competitive advantage. Nobody else has your stories. Nobody else has your voice. Nobody else connects the dots the way you do.
How To Turn It Up
Show your face. On Instagram, in your emails, on your website. People buy from people they feel they know. Stop hiding behind your logo and show them who you actually are.
Share your opinions. Agree or disagree with industry trends. Take a stance. The more opinionated you are (within reason!), the more memorable you become. Vanilla content gets scrolled past. Marmite content gets engagement.
Tell stories. Not just business stories – real life stories. The funny thing that happened on the school run. The lesson you learned from your dog. The business mistake that taught you everything. Stories make you relatable and human.
Be generous with value. Give away your best stuff for free – in your Instagram carousels, your blog posts, your email newsletters via Flodesk or MailerLite. When you freely share amazing content, people trust you AND want to pay you for more.
Ditch the corporate speak. Write like you talk. Use the words you actually say in conversation. If you’d say “that’s a load of rubbish” in real life, don’t write “this approach may prove suboptimal” on your website. Be YOU.
Your “Me Factor” is the one thing your competitors can never copy. So turn it up, turn it ALL the way up, and watch how it transforms your business.
