I have a confession. I used to be scared of numbers when they were related to money. I would rather hide under the table than tackle cashflow forecasts or sales projections – it nearly brought me out in hives.
But when I started working with my coach, she made me develop a daily numbers habit that completely transformed my business. And I mean completely.
The Habit That Changed Everything
She made me set up a sales tracker – a simple spreadsheet in Google Sheets with my targets for each week and month. Every time I made a sale, I updated it. Every single time. And here’s what happened:
I made FOUR TIMES more money than I used to make before I tracked my numbers. Four times. Let that sink in for a moment.
Why Does This Work?
You know that saying “wherever you place your attention is where the magic happens”? When I placed my attention on my SALES figures, I started to get SALES. I started noticing opportunities I’d been blind to before – chances to upsell, to reach out to past clients, to create offers that people actually wanted.
I didn’t have to change anything radical. I still do business the same way. I’m still me. I still help people – I haven’t turned into some cold-hearted sales machine. The difference is that I can now SEE where the money is coming from, where it’s not, and what I need to focus on.
How To Start Today
You don’t need fancy software (although Xero and QuickBooks are brilliant if you want to level up). Start with a simple Google Sheet or a notebook. Here’s what to track:
Your weekly and monthly sales targets – what do you WANT to earn? Be specific.
Every sale you make – update your tracker the moment money comes in. Watch yourself inch closer to your target.
Where the sale came from – was it Instagram? A referral? Your email list? An existing client? This tells you where to focus your marketing energy.
Stop Hiding From Your Numbers
I know it can feel scary. But not knowing your numbers is like driving with your eyes closed – you might be heading in completely the wrong direction and you won’t know until you crash. Open your eyes. Look at the numbers. They’re not as scary as you think, and once you start tracking them, you’ll wonder why you didn’t do it years ago.
My challenge to you: set up your tracker today. Put your targets in. And every time you make a sale this week, update it. Start placing your attention on what you want to achieve – and watch what happens.
