Every January we’re full of goals and targets. Spreadsheets filled out, Notion boards set up, vision boards pinned to the wall. We’re 100% committed to making THIS the year we smash through our targets.

Fast forward a few months and those targets are a distant memory. Life got in the way, time flew by, and you’re feeling set adrift wondering where it all went wrong.

Sound familiar? Before you beat yourself up or write off the rest of the year – stop. I have a much better idea.

Start From Where You Are

The sooner you put new targets in place, the sooner you can start working towards them. It doesn’t matter that it’s not January. It doesn’t matter that you “should have” done this months ago. Today is the best day to start because it’s the earliest day you’ve got.

Your Numbers Tell You Everything

The numbers in your business – your sales, your social media followers, your email subscribers, your website traffic – tell you everything you need to know about what to do next.

If your sales are going down, you need to change something. If your Instagram followers are growing but nobody’s buying, you might be attracting the wrong people – or your content isn’t leading them towards your offer. If your email list is stuck at a sorry figure, it’s time to create a freebie in Canva and promote it everywhere.

Use Google Analytics, your Instagram Insights, and your email platform’s dashboard (Flodesk, MailerLite, or ConvertKit all have great reporting) to see what’s actually happening vs what you THINK is happening.

How To Reset Your Goals Right Now

Stop beating yourself up. Seriously. Guilt is not a business strategy. Let it go and move forward.

Set realistic targets for the next 90 days. Not the whole year – just 90 days. What do you want to achieve by then? Make it specific: “I want to add 200 people to my email list” or “I want to hit £5k in monthly revenue.”

Get clear on your sales target. How much do you want to earn? Break it down by month, by week, even by day. Track it in Google Sheets or Xero. Knowledge is power – and once you start tracking, you’ll start seeing opportunities everywhere.

Pick your focus. You can’t do everything at once (that’s probably how you ended up off track in the first place). Pick ONE marketing channel to focus on – Instagram, email, LinkedIn – and do it properly.

Without targets, the world gets vague and woolly. You bob along aimlessly, wondering why you’re not making much money. But with clear, specific targets? Everything changes. You know where you’re going, you can measure your progress, and you can celebrate when you get there.

So grab a notebook, open Google Sheets, or fire up Notion – and set your targets today. You haven’t failed. You’ve just had a pause. Now get back on track.
