We all have those weeks where we just can’t get into our marketing. The inspiration has packed its bags and gone on holiday. You KNOW you should be posting on Instagram, writing your newsletter, updating your website – but it’s just… not happening.

I had one of those weeks a while back. Usually I’m bursting with ideas, but that week I just felt “meh” about everything. I kept moving tasks further and further along my to-do list until Friday was packed to the gills.

Then something happened that snapped me out of it. I got a text from Chloe’s school (she was about six at the time) about a fancy dress competition. And suddenly I was FULL of energy – cutting, sewing, crafting, creating an amazing 1940s army girl costume in record time. I was super-productive. Why? Because I was having FUN.

And that’s the secret. When marketing feels like a chore, you need to find a way to make it fun again. Here are 4 tips that work brilliantly.

1. Create Something Visual

Jump into Canva and play. Browse templates for Instagram carousels, quote graphics, or Story templates. Add your brand colours, pick gorgeous photos, play with fonts. There’s something about the creative process that switches your brain from “ugh, marketing” to “ooh, this looks amazing!” Before you know it, you’ve created a week’s worth of content and actually enjoyed doing it.

2. Batch Your Content Around What Excites You

Instead of trying to force content about stuff that bores you, think about what’s EXCITING you right now. What are you passionate about this week? What made you laugh? What problem did you solve for a client? What opinion do you have that’s a bit spicy? Write about THAT. The passion will come through in your content and your audience will feel it.

3. Scroll For Inspiration (Yes, Really)

Give yourself permission to spend 20 minutes scrolling Instagram, TikTok, or Pinterest – but with PURPOSE. Save posts that inspire you. Screenshot Reels that make you think “I could do something like that.” Note down content formats that catch your eye. Then close the app and create your own version. This is research, not procrastination (just don’t let 20 minutes turn into two hours!).

4. Do The Easiest Thing First

When you’re feeling flat, don’t start with the hardest task. Post a quick Story. Share someone else’s content you found inspiring. Reply to a few comments. Engage with other people’s posts. These tiny actions get the momentum going and before you know it, you’re back in the flow and ready to tackle the bigger stuff.

Marketing doesn’t have to feel like pulling teeth. The best marketing is the stuff you enjoy creating – because if you’re having fun, that energy shines through in everything you share. So the next time you’re feeling meh, pick whichever of these tips sounds most appealing and just get started. The mojo will follow, I promise.
