I have a confession: I used to DREAD writing blog posts. I know – me! The woman who now churns out content like it’s going out of fashion. But there was a time when the thought of sitting down to write a blog made me want to hide under my desk.
It reminded me of when Chloe was about six and we used to have the biggest daily battle about brushing her teeth. “But Mummy do I HAVE to? But Mummy it’s BORING!” Then one day she discovered an app with Disney characters that made brushing fun – and she was literally running upstairs to brush her teeth twice a day. Everything changed when she found a way to enjoy it.
And that’s exactly what happened with me and blogging.
What I Was Doing Wrong
I was making it hard work. I was trying to think of serious, impressive topics that would require loads of research and make me sound like an expert. And that approach completely sucked the joy out of it.
Until one day it hit me: I have ALL the material I’ll ever need, right in front of me. I just needed to write about what I see, hear, and experience day to day – and how we can apply it to business. And THAT is fun.
Where Blog Ideas Come From
Everywhere. Literally everywhere. Here’s where I get mine:
Questions people ask me – in my DMs, my emails, my coaching calls. If one person is asking, hundreds are thinking it.
Things that happen in my life – a conversation with Chloe, a dog walk, a trip to the shops, something I saw on TV. There’s always a business lesson lurking if you look for it.
Things that annoy me – bad customer service, dodgy marketing, common mistakes I see business owners making. Opinions make great blog posts.
Things my clients are struggling with – if my coaching clients are dealing with it, chances are my readers are too.
Why Blogging Still Matters In 2026
I know what you’re thinking – “but Claire, nobody reads blogs anymore, it’s all about Reels and TikTok.” Wrong. Google still loves blog content. A well-written blog post with the right keywords can bring you traffic for YEARS. And unlike a Reel that disappears into the algorithm after 48 hours, your blog post sits on your website working for you 24/7.
Plus, one blog post can become a week’s worth of content. Turn your key points into an Instagram carousel in Canva. Pull out a quote for a LinkedIn post. Record yourself talking about it for a Reel. Summarise it in your email newsletter via Flodesk. One blog, five pieces of content. Magic.
Stop Overthinking And Start Writing
Your blog doesn’t need to be a 3,000-word masterpiece. It doesn’t need to be perfect. It just needs to be helpful, honest, and written in your voice. If you can have a conversation, you can write a blog post. Just write like you talk.
And if you’re REALLY stuck, use ChatGPT or Claude to help you brainstorm ideas or create an outline. Then add your own stories, your own personality, your own voice. The AI gives you structure; you give it soul.
So what are you making hard work in YOUR marketing? Whatever it is, I bet there’s a way to make it fun. Find that way – and watch everything change.
