There are loads of reasons why running a business is scary. Being at the helm means you’re responsible for everything – the money, the sales, the marketing, the legal side.

But there’s one fear that doesn’t often get mentioned. And it’s a weird one.

It whispers in your ear just when you’re feeling ambitious and ready to take on the world. And suddenly you’re stopped in your tracks.

It says: “WHAT if you ARE successful? What THEN?”

Why Do We Fear Success?

You’ve been so focused on keeping the money coming in and not falling flat on your face, you’ve never really stopped to think about what it would actually be like if it all worked.

When you start to dream big, your mind monkeys go into overdrive:

  • How would my partner react if I started earning more than them?
  • Would being successful mean even LESS time with my family?
  • Would my friends think I’ve changed or that I’m ‘up myself’?
  • What about the tax implications of actually making proper money?

While your subconscious is worrying about all this, it starts doing little things to sabotage your success. You put your own glass ceiling in place without even realising it.

Here’s What I’ve Learned

The people who love you and want the best for you will stick by you and be your cheerleaders. Those who aren’t a good fit will gently fall away – and that’s OK. Change is part of growth.

Get really clear on what success looks like to YOU, on your terms. Not anyone else’s version – yours.

Don’t let the fear of success stop you chasing it. That would be a real shame, awesome lady.
